“Any Day Could Be the Day That Changes Everything”
These words are simple. Just nine of them. But they’re words that changed my life.
They were the mantra of my former partner Tom, who tragically took his own life in 2016. Many of you reading this will know about Tom. About his brilliant mind, his creative soul, his joyful spirit. He was full of insight, ideas, inspiration. And he often said this line: “Any day could be the day that changes everything.”
And for me, that day did come. The day he died, yes. But also the days he lived. The days he made me laugh, challenged my thinking, co-created dreams with me. Days filled with storytelling, silliness, partnership, imagination and energy. Tom changed my life—not just because of his loss, but because of his impact.
And I share this because I want to ask you something.
Do you realise how much of an impact you have?
Not just on big days or in dramatic moments. But in the small, everyday interactions. The way you walk into a room. The tone of your emails. The stories you share. The choices you make when nobody’s watching.
These things matter. They create ripple effects.
Right now, in your workplace, in your family, among your friends, you are shaping someone’s reality. You are influencing how they feel, how they think, and sometimes, what they believe is possible.
And the best part? These things are in your hands. You don’t need a promotion or a certificate or a perfect plan. You just need to become a little more conscious of the impact you’re already having—and decide to make it intentional.
That’s why 4D exists. We don’t just talk about performance and communication and wellbeing because they’re trendy topics. We do it because when you get these things right—not perfectly, but consciously—you begin to live with presence and power.
And we want that to be available to everyone. So we’ve created 4D Free Essentials, a membership space on our OnDemand platform where you can access tools, techniques and inspiration—completely free.
You’ll find short, sharp, easy-to-apply modules on:
-
IMPACT – how to increase your presence, clarity and influence
-

-
WELLBEING – how to protect your mind and body with real, usable techniques
All designed to help you be more intentional, energised, and connected—starting today.
Because yes, any day could be the day that changes everything.
But it doesn’t have to be a dramatic event. It can be this moment, right now. A moment where you decide to take ownership of how you lead, love, create, communicate.
A moment that starts a shift—for you and for everyone around you.
Why the HOW of Your Life is What Truly Matters
After losing someone close, people often say, “I’ll never be the same again.” And that’s true. But here’s something important I want to offer:
It’s not only the pain of death that changes us.
It’s the power of life that transforms us too.
I am not only changed because Tom is gone. I am changed because of who he was. His thoughts. His presence. His passion. His stories. His essence.
And that’s true for you, too.
You are impacting people right now. Whether you’re leading a team, raising a child, caring for a friend, or simply interacting with someone at a checkout. In every moment, you are shaping your world and influencing someone’s experience.
You don’t need to be famous, powerful or public to matter.
You do matter. Right now.
So, let me ask you: are you aware of HOW you are showing up? HOW you are making others feel? HOW you are living your life, moment to moment?
Because on the catwalk of leadership—and make no mistake, we are all leaders in some context—you are always on display. And people remember HOW you made them feel.
Now let’s explore what I mean by “HOW.”
We spend a lot of time thinking about three things:
-
WHAT we do: our job titles, our roles, our tasks.
-
WHERE we’re going: our goals, our vision, our next promotion or destination.
-
WHY we do it: our purpose, our values, our beliefs.
All of these matter. But they are often changeable, temporary, and sometimes out of reach.
Your WHAT will evolve over time. Your WHERE you’ll reach once… and then set a new one. Your WHY can be motivating, but it’s not always visible to others.
But your HOW?
Your HOW is in your hands in every single moment.
-
HOW you treat your team.
-
HOW you handle stress.
-
HOW you navigate conflict.
-
HOW you express gratitude.
-
HOW you listen.
-
HOW you celebrate, apologise, challenge, forgive.
Your HOW is what people see, feel, and remember.
And the impact of that is profound.
Research shows that leaders who create positive emotional energy increase job satisfaction, wellbeing, loyalty and performance. They also foster innovation, psychological safety, experimentation, trust and collaboration.
And that’s not just about being “nice.” It’s about being intentional with the emotional experience you’re creating for others. Because HOW you lead… is how others live.
And HOW you live… is how your life will feel.
So how do we take control of our HOW?
We start small.
-
Before your next meeting: take a breath and ask, “How do I want to show up in this room?”
-
Before giving feedback: ask, “What tone do I want to use that supports this person’s growth?”
-
Before answering your child or partner in frustration: pause and ask, “Is this the impact I want to have right now?”
-
Before judging yourself: pause and ask, “How can I offer myself a bit more grace?”
It starts here. With attention. With presence. With ownership.
Because even in a world that’s unpredictable, exhausting, and overwhelming—you have this power. The power to decide HOW you want to be.
Every moment, you are shaping a story. The story of your life. And that story is being co-authored by HOW you choose to show up.
The HOW is your leadership. It’s your legacy. It’s the mark you leave on every interaction, conversation, relationship and day.
And just like Tom reminded me…
Any day could be the day that changes everything.
So… what if it’s today?
